Match Report
Colts Under 9’s 1 Colts Under 10’s 7
Despite the look of the scoreline, this was an excellent friendly for the under 9’s, who will have learned plenty from the match.
The under 9’s put in plenty of effort, and held the under 10’s for the first quarter of the game – not only keeping the score at 0-0 but probably having the best scoring chance as well.
Under 9’s were a little lighter at the back than usual, with Luke rested for this game, but strong performance in the first half from Ben T and in the second from Harry showed me that we do have more defenders at our disposal when needed!
Once the under 10’s broke the deadlock with Jake scoring they did seem to find their scoring touch, though it was encouraging that they needed their “big guns” – Jake and Lewis – to really break us down (both scored hat-tricks).
The size and strength of the under 10’s certainly made a difference, and it was also noticeable that they are now moving to the ball, whereas many of our players are still waiting for it to arrive at their feet. A little something that we need to work on in training.
Whilst we were 0-5 down at half time, the boys put in a sterling performance in the second half, limiting the under 10’s to just two further scores, with our lads actually finishing the stronger. Two or three good scoring chances were created by the under 9’s in the last quarter of the game, with Josh B adding the final touch to one excellent move to give us our goal.
Really good games from everyone involved, but I have to praise especially Ben T in the first half, Harry in the second, and Peter in goal for ¾ of the game. Most of the goals that were conceded were just about impossible to stop from the keeper’s point of view, and Peter’s general work in goal was actually really good.
Cup action next week with a trip to Willen United.
